LMHR presents Dave Angel
Thursday 16th April 2009
Tickets £6 // £8 on door // Doors 8pm til 2am
Quest, Wakefield
Love Music Hate Racism with 2 Rooms of Live Bands and DJs with Dave Angel, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Matt Abbott (Skint and demoralised), Last Gang, Cover All Grounds Faction.
This year’s European election takes place against a background of recession and rising unemployment. The Nazi British National party will seek to exploit people’s fears by putting the blame on foreign workers for the current crisis. Love music hate racism brings musicians together with the aim of promoting a message of unity against facism and racism.
Dave Angel
His musical career started when he borrowed an old electronic keyboard from a friend and, using a double tape deck, assembled a bassline and drum track, over which he laid "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Eurythmics. When BMG, and thus the Eurythmics, learnt of this, Annie Lennox wanted to prevent the sale of what was in effect the pirating of their song; however, her partner Dave Stewart liked the mix and the rest is history. Over the years that followed, he gained a central position on the international scene, making appearances at the biggest events and festivals; he plays all over the world, and has become one of the Worlds leading Techno DJs
Get Cape Wear Cape Fly
A spokesman for his generation, Sam Duckworth grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and has supported bands such as The Flaming Lips, The Magic Numbers, OK Go, Funeral for a Friend,The Kooks and Feeder.
Matt Abbott (Skint and demoralised)
The lyricist and frontman of Skint & Demoralised joins us. Matt Abbott started out in September 2007; within three months he had been asked by Jon McClure to support his band Reverend and the Makers.
Last Gang
Yorkshires local heroes stand out in the classic British post-punk tradition. Their sound has a poppier edge, referencing other British pop hallmarks such as Madness, the Housemartins and Buzzcocks.
Recent releases include: 'Youth Run The City', 'Kids Rebel' and 'We Don't Care'.
Rosie Doonan
Rosie Doonan is an exciting new singer songwriter. She was raised in Yorkshire within a family of musicians, dancers and performers. Consequently her influences are a heady brew and range from the music of the sixties e.g the stones, Free, Joni Mitchel and Nina Simone and more recently Damien Rice, Sheryl Crow and Portishead.
Tim Butane
Wakefield’s melodic-metal punk with an aggressive, fast hard edge.
Cover All Grounds Faction (J. Bravo/K-One/Dreadman) DJ Marksman
