Ok , in a nutshell

i made a bass sound out of a reversed kick drum. The only trouble is that i need to span those notes over approx a 5th in musical terms

The root note sounds great but the lower bass note , about 4 semitones lower just sounds different. The tone is'nt the same.

I'm wandering if you know any tricks to change a pitch without changing the dominant tone. I did manage to extract the root wave that makes up the sound and tried plugging it in absynth but it still sounds funny

any suggestions

Maybe U should try a really good pitchshifting ... assuming u havent donne that already!

Try different settings until u feel that it's the closest u can get from the original sound... there ain't no perfect pitchshifting.... yet!

Does anyone know of a plugin that will do real time pitch shifting?

Ultravox from steinberg but it's tailored 4 vocals mainly!

A good way to do it would be to pitch shift the sample multiple times to give you multiple notes. Save each sample seperately and then map each sample on the corresponding keys.

A sample editor like soundforge (or equivalent) is sufficient.

Waves Sound Shifter can do the job pretty well,, IMO.

Is it the bottom end that you lose when you pitch it down? If so, then try just boosting it back up by layering a pure sine wave behind it. If done correctly you wouldnt even know it had been done, apart from the extra bass.

Mmm, is this a 'formant' problem you are hearing. Melodyne maybe?
