Depends what your aims are mate. And what software your going to be using. If you dabble in Ableton and have the bucks check out the Akai Ableton Controller (APC 40, I think).

Personally, I have used the X-Session Pro with Abelton and Traktor and although basic, it does provide "traditional" DJ functionality but wouldn't allow for manipulation of sophisticated Live arrangements etc...

well, i use a lot of the knobs and sliders on my usb keyboard to trigger ableton at present. a little ghetto, but does the trick. but when i dj i like to do a lot of cuts and such, so i want a way to add "traditional" mixing into the mix.

Have a good look at the APC40 I reckon. It has upfaders and a a cross fader plus tons of assignable buttons and knobs. Plus a clip launching matrix.

I'm with Tony C on this. The APC 40 is a sexy looking beast and from all accounts it is functional too.

Quite pricey but these are the nuts.
Saw speedy j using one of these live to control Ableton and Tracktor on separate laptops.

Actually, considering it is Allen and Heath it is meant to be the bees penis. I wouldn't mind one myself.

that does look nice, but it's also far, far out of my current price range :(

Looks good. Clean, simple. Only problem is is that it is a Vestax- so that means that when ever you finish using it- cover it. Any hint of dust and the vestax faders go ape shit.

Also get some fader oil and once every 2 weeks- lube it. all in all, it looks good.
