Admission : e10
This Thursday we welcome the first ever visit to these shores from Spain's King of Techno, Oscar Mulero. With twelve years of Djing experience behind him, Oscar is an absolute phenomenon in Spanish clubland constantly packing venues to full capacity. In 2002 Oscar was given the honour of becoming the first Spanish DJ to headline the legendary Sonar festival in Barcelona. Recently his sets have become more focused by incorporating techno's ground breaking artists such as Christian Wunsch, British Murder Boys, Archae & Grovskopa and Reeko. His incredible skills behind the decks and spectacular EQ techniques make him one of the finest techno DJ's around and his debut set at Electric City is already shaping up to be one of the highlights of the year.
Oscar's career as a DJ began in the early 90's when he played EBM and Gothic Rock in small clubs around Madrid. It was not until the mid 90's that his musical style changed, moving towards a more minimal harder techno sound which was influenced by artists such as Robert Armani, Joey Beltram and Jeff Mills. Oscar quickly became a techno pioneer all over the Iberian Peninsula. As his popularity grew year by year, his sound became more and more oriented towards the purest and most virulent strains of techno. His amazing skills behind the decks can be heard to great effect on the two mix CD's he has released to date - 'About Discipline and Education' on the So Dens label and 'Era' for the Rexxistance label. These mixes represent the foundations of Oscar's sound and bring together the cream of the current techno crop like Surgeon, Jeff Mills, James Ruskin and Autchere.
Over the last three years Oscar has also emerged as an established recording artist. After releasing his first record 'Quite Unusual' on Madrid label Brainwaves in 1999, he set up his own imprint Warm Up Recordings. His first releases 'Medical Mush' and 'Sans Souci' attracted attention from around the world and were included in the charts of DJ's - Surgeon, Mark Broom and Ben Sims. The subsequent releases have consolidated Oscar's position in techno's La Liga and his tracks are now appearing on releases from respected labels such Theory, Kobayashi, Pure Plastic, Stimulus and Coda.
Support on the night comes from Sunil Sharpe. Over the last few years Sunil has established himself as one of Ireland's leading techno's DJ's. A natural talent behind the decks, his tough no-holds-barred sets have captured the imagination of clubbers throughout the country. Sunil [The Young Prince of Techno!] has promised to treat us to set of dark techno & electro. Electric City resident Giles Armstrong will be opening the night.
