Is there any way to route the audio from a tone genrator synth to some sort of midi clock?
Don't think so, you'd probably need some sort of ADC to convert it to MIDI serial data and even then getting the voltage range right is another matter. Also don't get the clock pin on MIDI confused with protocol timing, the clock pin is there for the serial bit stream start edge.
There are two types of MIDI timing, sync pulse and active (which is plain weird, since it quite easily bottlenecks the transmission). Sync is the easiest to work with imho. Just be sure you don't have multiple syncs running on MIDI otherwise you get horrible timing issues.
IIRC you can use software like MIDI-OX to generate a sync, if you don't want to use a full blown sequncer. Also most grooveboxes and synth sequencers have clocks on them, you may even have arpegiators included which is what you'll definitely want if you like the tight swing timing in Techno (which I'm sure you do ;)
Oh and finially, a sync isn't necessary if you're just using a master sequencer. You'll only need it if you're trying to sync up slave sequencers or arpegiators.
