Headlining our first Vibes event of the year is London-based producer and DJ, Toby Tobias. Toby has been tinkering with beats and samples since the early 90's, and is a bona fide aficionado of the Chicago and Detroit music scenes. Renowned as a producer, Toby’s tracks have been released on many respected labels, with remixes by artists such as I:Cube , Motor City Drum Ensemble and Tensnake. His recent debut album on the Rekids label, Space Shuffle has been championed across the realm of electronic music, and the next year will see new singles and a sophomore LP. Expect an expertly crafted lo-fi set from Toby when he hits the stage at Cargo.
Sharing the bill we are proud to feature Sud Electronic's Lerato Khathi aka Lakuti. Lakuti emerged out of the ruins of a post-apartheid South Africa, having grown up in the impoverished township of Soweto. After starting her career in Jo’burg, she relocated to London in 1997 where she established the hugely popular and successful Sud Electronic label and party brand alongside Alan Abrahams. Lakuti has played out at clubs such as Fabric, The End, Plastic People, Corsica Studios, Elektrowerks and various underground parties up and down the UK. Lakuti’s sets are always a treat as she only plays vinyl and we're looking forward to hearing her deep and sexy house sound on the Cargo turbo soundsystem.
No Vibes event would be complete without DJ/promoter and driving force behind the Universal Vibes label, Paddy Freeform, who blew the roof of Cargo when he followed Moodymanc onto the decks at the launch event. There will also be another appearance by live resident Darko Viric and his Strange Worlds Soundsystem. Darko brings his own brand of musical magic to life on stage as he manipulates a laptop, a 909 and a mixer and takes the crowd on an eye and ear-catching journey through deep electronic sounds.
