Reviews kids??What u reckon of last saturday?
Fair good i thought, not a classic jam but some of the sets were class.
Claude Young was brilliant, some proper slammin 3deck trickery. Didnt rate Liebing much at all,big tune after big tune all mixed poorly. Did anyone hear his first half hour of mixes? Really really awful.
Ruskin,Finke,Mavericks and Fenton were all good.
Bring on the Split night i rekon!!

thought it was a great Aj.....liked all the sets to be honest......young was good.....the mavericks were stunning......I liked liebing I thought he was quite good.....not the best mixing but he was proper enjoyin himself and the crowd were too and thats enough for me.......I thought ades set was sketchy....the needle kept jumpin which must have pissed him off.......the dnb room was jumpin all night though.....except when a few rudeys came in and everyone scarpered!!! I didnt though.....Randall was too good!!
hahaha....there were loads of em as well....haha....how did u get down there mr dogshit....you didnt jump on our coach on the way home with yer missu by any chance did yer?
yeh it was all kickin off in the dnb romm my mates told me good night thought liebing was good and the mavericks were good too

Caught the end of Ruskins set, sounded pretty cool.
Thought the mavericks were brilliant. Deep but heavy as f**k.
Claude Young was on top form pulling off some wicked tricks. best set
i have heard from him in ages.
Chris Leibing was terrible so i left pretty sharpish ;)

Absolutly class night, especially claude young and the 65d mavericks. Agree about liebing, the mixing was sketchy and he over used that kaos pad but the tunes were ok. Ade fenton rounded the night off nicley, not his finest hour but good all the same. ;)

Doesn't work - we'd need your password.
Find the images in your profile on there, and the right click and copy "Properties."
Return here, put the copied properties in between these 2: here and bobs your uncle. Do it for each image. No sweat! ;)

Is it just me or does that look like a much slimmer Claude Young? I thought that was Trevor Rockliffe for a second!

Not just me then.
Can anyone confirm the rumour that Claude "The Whip" Young has been very succesfully ascending the ranks in the amateur super middleweight boxing circuit?

Haha yeah! He's being tipped to be the next Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank all rolled into one.

i remember watching that leibing photo being taken.
I havnt posted my view on AJ yet so here it goes, with meticulous detail;)
First up Mr finke. Only caught the last half of his set but he did th business as usual. Perfect warm up set. Jack your body, preacherman, jack had a house etc. Lots of nice old skool.
Then mr ruskin. Took it up another notch in prep for the mavericks. Tight mixing, but not the best set ive ever heard ruskin play. Not as much dark stuff as i would have liked. He also played preachermanL:):):)
The mavericks were up after ruskin. By far the highlight of the night for me. I nearly wet myself because i couldnt bring my self to leave. Their live set seemed to comprise of one of those new MXF8 contolers, hooked up to ableton live. An evolution type keyboard hooked up to a sampler, then all this pumped thru a desk. They worked excellentlly as a partnership. Flawless. Lots of airy spacy synths mashed up with dark precussion and fat jumbled beats. They seemed to play a lot more harder than i expected. they "Rocked da joint" to put it lightly.
Mr young was then to grace the decks. I enjoyed his set, i felt he cut it up a bit too much, but this was masked by the fact there was a new element/tune coming in every 20 seconds it seemed. Mr young truely earned his money that night. He looked like he worked extremeley hard unlike leibing who just smiled like a cheesy monkey throughout.
Next was leibing. I was expecting this set to be an extreme let down. After a few records i lost my pesimistic head and got down. It was ok for around fiftenn minutes. In fact i quite enjoyed myself. I tried to get into the frame of mind that it was all techno? ????? Lots of schranzy precussion with a hard 140bpm+ 4/4 beat. One for the harder fasters. His set would have been ok, but this did not change for a whole hour. I've never been bored at a set like this. This was a set completeley made up of long break downs followed by a hard boring track. By the end of his set i felt like i had tinitus and was counting down the time till the end of his set.
Leibing finally finished and Mr Fenton cam on (no make up i thnk;)
He started of pretty hard playing his Atomic Jam style weve always become familiar with. A fair few jackin/booty numbers thrown in. I truely felt sorry for the guy as on a number of occasions he had to chop it to the next tune due to deck skippage. At one point toward the begining of his set the decks skipped around 7 times. Awful situation.
Anyway, not an excellent set, but was ok to round the night off with.
I really do feel after this jam and NYE, The residents must be swapped around. I think for the clubbers to really get a feel for what both residents are about they need to be swapped. Most people at AJ havnt even heard a full chris finke set.
SO come on AJ, get it sorted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's always been that way though. Noone ever got to hear Tony Work because he was normally done and dusted by about 11pm, but somehow Ade Fenton without fail played last. Always seemed to be the wrong way round in my opinion.
As for chopping over tunes and galloping beats, that sounds exactly like Ade Fenton's trademarked "sloppy" style from a few years ago, regardless of whether the decks were skipping or not.... He has improved a lot to be fair..
And about time Mr Drummer was booked for the Jam. Well overdue if you ask me. They should get Liberator doing a room again like the good old days....

yeah i know but he has improved
back inn the tony work days, ade deserved to be on last as tony was shit. mixing always in red, constant slip ups etc. now aj have an extremeley good dj as a resident and they only play him when the clubs empty?

The warm up set is one of the most important of the night, and I am sure that any DJ that gets to perform at AJ is a happy DJ.

Back in the day Tony Work did play primetime slots cos they had another resident by the name of Nathan Gregory playing the first couple of hours.
Tony Work, in his defence, did always play Mike Dearborn 'Birds on E' at almost every Jam for 5 years which became something of an anthem. I love that tune!
