if you can afford to buy a laptop from a music equipment dealer such as digital village then do that, if not just get as good a spec as you can.... lots of ram, cpu power and a fast access hard drive are all important :)
also depending on what you want to do you may need a good sound card, if you plan to record things into your pc then this is essential as the background interference you'd get with a standard onboard sound card is a joke.
