I remember Mark thought long & hard about this... the way I look at it is that if Mark plays, Slinky are going to have an underground hard trance & techno master visiting! If Mark doesn't play then they will miss out.
I ALSO READ THAT M ZONE GOT OFFERED A SET AT GODS KITCHEN AS WELL

I think this would be a good thing if more underground djs play at big clubs like godskitchen, because i love the big events like global gathering but there just isnt very much quailty music there.
IT WOULD BE A LOT BETTER IF THERE WAS SOME UNDERGROUND DJS DEFENITLTY BUT I DONT THINK A LOT OF THEM WOULD WANT TO BECAUSE THERE COMMERCIAL MAINSTREAM CLUBS IN IT JUST FOR THE MONEY BUT TO BE FAIR THERE WAS AN ATOMIC JAM TENT AT GLOBAL GATHERING LAST YEAR AN IT ROCKED IN THERE

no i think its a very bad idea. Whats wrong with the state of the hard trance/hardstyle scene at the moment? Cast your minds back to early 99 when the trance scene went really commecial and cheesy, partly due to the influence of gatercrasher etc.
I think the tunes at the moment are excellent - hard, varied and exciting, why do you want underground djs playing to 'clubby' crowds?

Whats on,
Agree totally with mattshepard.
+ m zone did get offered a set at Gatecrasher, but he turned it down.
To keep the current scene underground.

no, mzone didn't turn it down - he was given the warm up set so didn't take it.

I think it can be a good thing,Mark is not gonna sell out and go all commercial is he.
At the end of the day Mark should be getting more credit in the Hard Trance scene as we all know him and M-Zone were the ones who have stood by it from the start

as i think most of you know by now (well, those who speak to me regularly on this board definitely do), my mission is to play my sound to as many ppl as I can take it to and convert them into the underground sound. i'll usually play new gigs and then make up my own mind as to whether i feel i'm getting anywhere or not. music politics has never been an issue or even part of my agenda.
i stood in for the tidy boys at a slinky tour party the other day and i really, really enjoyed myself. fair play, the crowd were not the most underground crowd in the world and there was definitely a tendancy to sup beer, but hey - I enjoyed myself because i felt i was playing people a different sound to what they were used to. ok, i had to build my set up more than i usually would (which really made me have to think about my set a little bit more which i enjoyed - i even started with techno to scare off the complete numpties!!!!), but by the end of it i was playing the hardest hardstyle and I couldn't believe it - the nob heads had left but those left on the dancefloor genuinely loved it. RESULT!
OK, i'll admit it. it wasn't half as fulfilling as playing to a buch of ppl who each sleep and sh*t your sound, but from a DJ point of view i felt like i'd achieved something. if that happens to me, i want to go back. if it doesn't i don't.
the thing is, i've never played at a real slinky party before. alot of ppl are saying they're not surprised that alot of the bigger clubs are finally asking me to play, but i am. i haven't been in any of these more commercial orientated clubs ever in my life so i'm interested to see what its all about. again, if i feel like i'm achieving something i'll stay. if not, i'll go.
the main thing i can promise anyone who cares about my sound and where i play, is that the underground always comes first and always will. i haven't been listening to underground music since the early eighties to suddenly stick two fingers up to the sound and start playing scooter tracks. hehe. chrissi (who does all my bookings) knows how i feel and would always make sure the people who matter are in the diary too.
in my case, it's a simply thing of do the gig and make up my own mind.
anyway, really interested to hear your views, not mine!!!!!!

Well I feel slightly better after that long speech but for me Slinky has always been a place that is definitely not underground and therefore I only find myself going when I want to pull a fine chick. I think I'd be happy to go and watch you play though Mark if it was in Bournmouth.

Member tho, these clubs are the clubs many peeps start out in, then find they want 2 delve deeper into the scene.
I dont have a prob with any club(proper) aslong as u have fun in it.
Think its a good thing for mark to be playin these clubs as there could be people in there who have been missin out on music they might enjoy more. Opening up a new avenue so to say.

fair play to you - mark - why not spread your sound as far and wide as you can.............it's not as if you're going to get there and start playing top 40 trance-lite is it?
I MUCH PREFER GOIN TO UNDER GROUND CLUBS ANY WAY I REGUARLY GO TO FLASHBACK AND CYPHER AND HUMAN TRAFFIC AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE ATMOSPHERE IS LOADS BETTER AT ONE OF THESE EVENTS THAN IT IS AT SOMEWERE LIKE GODS KITCHEN

can see both points on this and can totaly see where their coming from. but id do it without even thinkin about it because if u get a chance 2 play to Slinky or whereever, to me itd be about repreasenting the scene you love and showin every1 at Slinky what you and the rest of your scene are about.

Cosmic gate were at slinky on the 10th, I went to it and I certainly regret it now as they were quite bad at mixing and they didnt play as hard as I was led to belive they were going to play.
I should of gone to the showbar, at least It would of been hard.

cant say fairer than that i reckon.
the way i see it, as long as you dont go to slinky and play two hours of chart trance then there's no problem!!! (and i cant see that happening for... ooh about six weeks!!!! he he he)

excuse me, excuse me, excuse you, excuse me!
i totally dis-agree with what your gonna achieve by playing at Slinky myself, you might get them jumpin, but you won't get them going mad, like they would do Judge julian playing his KACK TO KACK set with a venga bus........
this is a typical case of coporate clubs jumping on an underground band wagon, don't know if anyone hear has been listening to radio 1, but its becoming more & more to us hard trancers liking.....
I can't see how playing at slinky can do anything except for the very tempting £££'s
so soon it will be judge Jules playing hard trance on radio 1
Pete Tong playing techno/trance oreintated tunes
Seb Fontaine - playing hardstyle, hard trance
Fergie - playing techno/ Hard trance / Hard House
yer great

he already does...
Pete Tong playing techno/trance oreintated tunes
i dont reckon... have you heard the stuff tongy normally plays these days? housing it...
Seb Fontaine - playing hardstyle, hard trance
seb fontaine? hardstyle??? hmmm... not in my lifetime.
Fergie - playing techno/ Hard trance / Hard House
well that wish/nightmare has already come true...
dunno if this is relevant, but with trance labels folding because (they say) of diminshing sales, then stuff "going mainstream" getting licensed to majors and selling shedloads would surely mean these labels could generate the revenue to keep signing people and releasing stuff...? i admit im not the most clued up person when it comes to the business side of things... so correct me if im wrong.
also, something that i find quite funny is everyone disses the hell out of people for liking other types of music which we deem to be shite, but as soon as something from our scene sells loads people moan cos its gone commercial...

you'd be surprised what Seb Fontaine has been bangin out recently mate, a bit of marching music, some techno/trance oreintated stuff as well
I was sat in a mates car last week, I thought we were listening to a cd with the sound turned down, i told him there's a couple of good tunes on there... he said its radio 1, mush to my surprise it turned out to Seb fontaine....
yeah I read somewhere Bonzai was closing, i always saw that as a stable label, so it came as a surprise to me. but you could i guess argue it the other way direction and look at the already major labels in Britain...
Nukleuz - they release hard trance cd's, using a record company label called warner (to generate sales), Well warner get to choose what tunes are put on that album, not the people who make and play for Nukleuz.... the same would happen here..... it wouldn't be a case of getting your message across, it would be a case of being told you have to mix these 19 tracks in this order, we want this that and Iraq, but no clever scrathing and bla bla bla (okay a bit of an exagerration..)
good point though....
