The Overfiend
08-04-2004, 04:32 PM
I care because I don't think people are paying attention to the video and to the song. The Ny club scene used to be filled with cats like this it's no surprize. I'm saying there should be less focus to how he lives his life and more on the fact that someone from techno made a video, we should be proud instead of tee hee hee he's gay. Cause last i remembered he'll f8ck your granny, your auntie, your sister your borther your cousin your uncle........

It's just one of those things i'll think in the future, 'remember rush done that funny video'

no i agree, but sometimes it jsut gets too much. i like a lot of hiphop and im not gonna go all like "oh..back in the days", cause im not that old myself, but im glad that its not going this way with techno and more underground electronic music at least. or maybe it is and i dont see it

anyways, what i mean is that i had it pretty much up to here with all the playerism shit. it can get so lame, and its very rarely funny nowadays, and something like this video is something i can appreciate much more

Vid makes me want to move to Berlin, and I wouldn't say it's a lazy comparison because of the fact that they are or were friends and worked together way before the weird look stuff, my assessment is they came up with the concept together Rush has foam and Velvet has those tube looking chinese handcuff things.

No, he was producing and DJing for longer perhaps. There is no doubt that Green Velvet rose to heights of fame (I'm talking worldwise here) before Rush. In fact if it wasn't for the hairdo and what not people could have laughed Rush out of the place, a lot of his early stuff was terrible although he did do the odd good thing I guess..

Adverse

fair enough and very true.

i feel it's negative in the way that it looks (form the public eye) like a bunch of misfit freaks laughing over a compressed loop. instead of the hard work and true inspiration some people grind out in their techno pieces. as much as he has the right. feel it is not positive, and i mean in the way of promoting the music commercially..

For commercial success all you need is something which is going to stick in someone's head and this tune has it by way of the lyrics and the beats. IMO There's nothing wrong in having a commercially succesful tune, it doesn't make you any less underground.

BTW, the video is funny as **** and I would love to see it on terrestrial TV. Top of The Pops watch out.

no, man, i don't know, i can't agree with this. yeah, while this doesn't fit my "world view" of what i would like all techno to be, i think it's fun.

i think techno actually needs more shots of humor like this from time to time before it gets so serious (and no longer fun) that it completely disappears up its own ass. do we really want this music to become so serious that it becomes completely inaccessible except for the select few and therefore garner no more new recruits?

Yeah I'm sure that's what they're referring to, I just felt that they were saying it like it's a bad thing. Came across to me like "hurhur he's a faggot" :dontevengothere:

Anyways..

Personally I thought the video was pretty naff, but then I don't sit down and watch MTV or any other music programs on the box.. Could appeal to different people, at the end of the day it's clear he's trying to appeal to a new market which in my opinion is a good thing. Open minds always welcome.

I'm not saying it's something I'd do, but for christs sake, pull yer heads out of your arses, it's just a sodding video..

you lot must have REALLY boring jobs to continue banging on about it when at the end of the day it's neither here nor there.. Rush did a video, so what?

I can't believe that just because an established techno artist has made a "VIDEO" (Shock Horror, bang goes his underground credentials) it can provoke 6 pages of people banging on about it being such a bad thing (Admittedly, all of what's posted here is not all bad, but 6 pages over a video, c'mon)

I'm not saying it's something I'd do, but for christs sake, pull yer heads out of your arses, it's just a sodding video..

you lot must have REALLY boring jobs to continue banging on about it when at the end of the day it's neither here nor there.. Rush did a video, so what?
Get over it...

BTW: You've all done a really good job at letting everyone know there's a new DJ Rush video out, well done lads, nice work...

ah c'mon, you've given your fair contribution to the thread too! Not everyone is complaining about it though, it's been a balanced arguement. I think many people are just saying if they like it or not, not if he should have done it. The video isn't great imo, although I just don't like the song... With with a big record company, snappier radio edit, and a push in the right places I could see this going top 10 pretty much anywhere.

sorry, just I see a lot of po-faced-ness, BOO HISS, you can't do a video with techno, it's against the "Rules" (???)...
that particular mix of that track (On the video) is the only one I've ever heard that I actually liked, and I don't think the video is that bad, I just think fair play...
it's just when people say "That's pathetic".. Why? Why is it pathetic? just sounds to me like spitting out a rhetoric that people have read in some interview with some techno artist somewhere about being "Underground"...

What is Underground anyway? working your ass off and never making any money cos your too COOL and UNDERGROUND to be into any of that shit..
I call that cutting off your nose to spite your face...

I respect people not liking it or whatever, but to call it "pathetic" is er well, pretty pathetic really...

Again, well done people, we're providing rush with some publicity, seeing as this thread is staying at the top

I think the video is a bit too unserious and upfront for people, and with Rush being a techno artist how could he be doing this etc? Because he's Rush and that's him, can't argue with it. I don't blame people for being against it though, we all have our ideals and how we think techno should be perceived.. people get very precious about techno which is not always a bad thing, snobbery and purism are part of techno's make up whether we like it or not.. and I'll accept either of these things if I feel the reasons are just or made with some form of logic.

It's the worst aspect of it, so so anal. It's MUSIC, it's about FUN surely?? Well, is for me anyway.

yeah it is about fun and enjoyment, and it is possible to be a purist or a snob about something and to *still* enjoy techno, just shows that you are often more selective about what you like. Not everyone thinks Rush's music is fun even if it is presented in a'fun' kind of way. I don't give a **** about purism, it's whats gives techno a lot of its backbone whether people lke it or not... it's all very well saying 'purism' is anal and the worst aspect of techno, I don't agree.. the worst aspect of techno is bad music that pretends to be techno, this the single most annoying thing about the genre for me at the moment, purism and snobbery can live on as far as I'm concerned.

.Ok Seriously this topic officially blows.
Just reviewing it it seems like there are so many haters out there.
Why is Rush not a good representative for techno going multimedia?
Would the lot of you rather watch a live pa for 4 mins and show one person headbanging over equipment?
Are the lot of you 12 years old? I mean seriously I grew up in the Nyc clubscene I'm talking the limelight Michael Alig days man. And Rush is tame as all hell compared to some gay showmen or dragqueens.
If the only reason that you don't accept his video is because of the campy content, then how come no one says anything when Regis says things like cock smack something or whatever??????
Plus I'm not gay but having an anti homo outlook will get you no where, especially in dance music. So I invite the lot of you with exception of those few who are open minded and honest on this forum to re evaluate your approach on this topic and in general

rush is a great showman & dj but his productions are now and always ahve been weak. he should not be representative of the underground technio scene with a crossover to mainstream video. people will think that he's what it's all about and he definitley aint reprazent for my scene....

representing or not, i didnt see this as some sorta forerunner for techno videos, just thought it was funny. and only a few days ago i noticed it was actually made to go on TV?....that took a bit of the fun out of it...it could get really annoying then. i just thought it was something he made for fun with some friends & put on the net.
and....dont see whats wrong in people mention him/it(the video) being gay & why others saying it shouldnt be an issue, etc. pretty much the whole video is based on it, so how cant it be an issue? id think that he wouldnt mind it, unless why do it that way? another thing of course is that it shouldnt change what you think about his music or him as a person to learn it.

Too much hating the next man instead of pushing this shit together as a collective. People are treating techno like a grade school lunch time event.
