this thread got started in the trance prod forum but never really answered. i know how a gate works pretty well. but how does a reverse gate work and what plugins do i need to get this? im assuming its not something as simple as reversing my track and applying a gate before i turn it around again.

I'm not quite sure what u mean but a reverse gate would b cutting out the sound when it goes abouve the treshold of the gate...

maybe im thinking of the wrong term....
ok how about this. how do you get a track to sound like all of the sound is being sucked into the bass drum?

Sidechain compression? i.e. compressing one sound using a different sound as the "trigger" of the compression effect.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, (I often am)...

sidechain compression set to pump, or reverse reverb

or a reverb, with predelay set so the reverb on the kick comes in on the offbeat, if you are looking for the atypical geezer, acid techno kick swoop thing.
