Vorny pointed this out to me and I thought people should know how some idiots think. Sorry for name calling, but I have little to no tolerance for ignorance in this stage of the game.

Obviously a load of crap, but I wouldent get to worked up about it, there are plenty of idiots out there with similar opinions.

In fact, I bet there are a lot of people who are well into techno who might say something like "R&B, Hip Hop, and Soul are too black, with too much of a focus on guns, drugs, crime, and the mistreatment of women."

And of course someone who is into the above genres would have the exact same reaction that we have when people make sweeping generalisations about techno.

And for the record, what I said about "urban" music I don't actually believe, someone could easily make that statement based on information gleaned from the mainstream media, but it would be every bit as incorrect as the one about techno.

What about Mills, Claude Young, Robert Hood, Carl Cox, Carl Craig etc etc. Loads of black techno producers around. I dunno, whoever wrote that is obviously some twat that doesn't know what he's on about.

at the end of the day, it's upto all of us to prove these ignorant, uneducated people wrong

jonnyspeed
06-05-2004, 10:23 PM
...but they count all the italians, germans, french, spanish, brazilians etc... in this. And compared with R&B the % of black people is minimal. Each to there own - if that means that I don't have bad female vocal tracks over geeetars boring the shite out of me on a saturday night. then HOORAY! Bring it on!

Anyway didn't you know rave is dead, man ;)

R&B, hip hop etc use real instruments????
90% of producers are sample rip fanatics.
hahahahahaha
Ignorance is bliss!!!!
Music for the clones.
It`s not so mucj ignorance as herd mentality.
Most people listen to what they are fed. Music is no longer an artform in there eyes, just another part of the fashion/consumer industry.
People listen to what they are told to listen to.
If the media decided that techno was "it" then everyone would be down to the "gap" buying pueposemaker T-Shirts

what a load of hate. i mean, i've lost interest getting worked up about anything like this

race has nothing whatsover to do with understanding music - we're all the same...

anyone who says this or believes it, is not into music. so it doesn't bother me in the slightest when i see something like this.... ;)

Well as they say...'No point being ignorant unless you show it', and this person has shown themself up big time, but like Mark said, why bother getting worked up about it?? He/she's the one missing out on great music by being narrowminded, and we know the score regarding techno, so why should we care?? This is just more mainstream media inaccurate, biased, gutter journalism, simple as that.

it harks back to that thread i put up about dave clarkes 'techno = white' comments. where everyone here showed themselves to be massivley informed, tolerant and considerate.

#eminem# 'nobody listens to techno anyway'
yeah and with mouthy white trash like you telling everyone that, thank the lord there'll be less muppets into it, woo hoo!!

but seriously, watch channel5 daytime saturdays, they have a pop video show which is just soft, and maybe even semi-on, porn!!
then they dis techno.............not a leg to stand on in real terms!!

hmm, just realised i said they, like all hip-hoppers/r&b fans hate us, not the case i'm sure.

davethedrummer
13-05-2004, 01:27 PM
aww come on you guys you CAN see where this comes from though can't you??

i mean techno clubs here in the u.k. are generally 90% white people.

it's just that there is no issue of race there and thats the difference.

people just go to enjoy themselves at a techno club wheras if you went to a soul/r+b club i think you'd find the race issue thrust directly under your nose.(along with a dress code overpriced drinks and a bad vibe)

it's just a case of someone judging our scene by their own values and reaching a totally skewed conclusion.

hahaha on them really

stupid sods.

for me, techno, hip hop and jazz are all in the same boat..... this guy probably thinks the word "techno" applies to popular electronic music like the crap most folks hear in adverts and on the radio and call it "techno"...... i dunno, let em say what they want to say. ;)

Given the prevelence of digital production techniques in r 'n b and hip-hop, it's a fairly silly comment. However, techno in America means something different than Europe. For the record some of the production on r 'n' b tracks is out of this work, pity about the music. ;)

yeah it's ignorance maybe, but we as a whole shouldn't care.

A statement like that isn't going to make potential techno fans not be. If you're going to be a fan, it'll happen anyway.

Statements like that have no bearing on what we do, and shouldn't give them a second thought.

Only one thing happens when you wrestle with pigs.

It's a clip taken from the Bloody Fist website, so it's likely to be from an Australian publication. As it happens, it's my signature image on another forum I use ;)

I wouldn't read much into it, it's just one of those ignorant comments that muisc journalists more interested in their pay cheque than their insightful writing churn out.

If anyone's familiar with Nasenbluten, they'll know their tunes are full of similar ignorant statements. Very funny to listen to.

True that. I think the mentality here in the states is totally different world wide as far as Techno is concerned. In Ny most people will say techno is for "guidos and homos."
And I'm quoting people not myself so no hell for saying the mo word.
As far as the guido word I'm half sicilian so shut up.

Found this whilst trawling the net at work...

In the future, all pop music will bring everyone a little closer together --gay or straight, black or white, one nation under a groove.

By "pop" they mean techno, but you get the idea!!!

How ironic, that in a thread about ignorance, that it ends up with the slating of other musics.

Best statement so far
