I'm heading over to the states in June, and I am hoping to take my laptop with me, what I'm wondering is if anyone has any experience using laptops in the states? Obviously it runs on 220v current, but in the states the mains supplys 110v. Does anyone have any idea what sort of adapter/transformer I will need to sort this out, and what sort of price I might be looking at?

It can't be too hard, due to the amount of business traffic between US and Europe, but I want to make sure I get it right, and don't blow up my treasured laptop.

you may find a switch on either the laptop or the psu that you have which says 220/110 like on the back of most desktpos. if that is there you switch that. not forgetting to re switch upon your return.

This is what I was hoping for, but I have failed to find it anywhere on the laptop. That has given me an idea though, perhaps there is a setting in the bios or something like that, I'll look into that.

check out the power block adaptor that comes with the laptop - most of them will take 110v or 240v as standard.. i just checked mine and it takes 100-240v input..
a latop doesnt run on 240v, more like 15-20v , which is why you get supplied the power block thingy, that is basicly a transformer.

yeah, I've now heard this elsewhere as well, I had no idea it would be so easy, but this appears to be the case, nothing more needed than an adapter it would seem! Cheers for the help.
