Thursday May 27th
Oxia [GoodLife - Grenoble]
Niall Power & Dave Halligan [Electric Circus - Waterford]
Admission e10
Thanks to Jeff Walters, Shaun Mac & Barry O'Donovan for last weeks cracking
sets. This Thursday sees the debut performance at Electric City of another
French techno maestro, Oxia. Hailing from the French Detroit - Grenoble.
Oxia aka Olivier Raymond is one of the countries leading techno producers
alongside his (& our) good friend The Hacker, David Carretta, The
Youngsters, Vitalic, Agoria & Technasia. Olivier epitomises the funkier side
of techno, techno that's 100% dance floor friendly. Inspired by Jeff Mills,
his DJing skills have to be witnessed first hand to be believed. His
all-action DJ style has seen him woo crowds at festivals like I Love Techno,
Awakenings and Welcome to the Rave. He is also a regular favourite at some
of the world's best clubs such as Fabric, Fuse, Loft and Womb. Get up close
and personal in the Metropolitan to see him cut it up like a Samurai!
Oxia's production sound of groovy techno, tainted by old skool influences
has seen him release on some of techno most popular labels like Intec (two
ep's 'Influence' in 2000 and 'Finally' in 2002), Monoid, Ozone Records,
Missile, Scandium, Terminal M and most recently Phont. Along with The
Hacker, he owns one of France's finest label's GoodLife. It's on this label
where he has released the majority of his music and has featured on
collaborations with Alexandre Reynaud, Kiko & of course The Hacker. This
year on GoodLife, Oxia released his debut solo album '24 Heures' to great
reactions from journalists, DJs' and most importantly the dance floor.
Support on the night comes from the South East coast in the shape of
Electric Circus' Dave Halligan and Niall Power. Dave will be playing the
opening slot with a selection of deep, dubby techno which is more at home in
Berlin than Waterford! This will be his first time to play the club. Playing
before Oxia will be Niall Power - a regular guest at Electric City. Over the
last few years Niall has brought many quality acts & DJs to his night in
Waterford. Expect him to play tracks from UR, Gary Martin, Ben Sims and Mark
Broom.
