    Default Umek - Mumps - q-s - pain 33 -a1

Well first i must say that i was quite surprised when i first heard his Telontol ep on NM, i honestly thought that i cant expect anything usefull from this bloke again. I mean you just have to give up after such amount of utter wank that he has produced in the last few years, altho i still give him credit for a few great eps he did way back, from Absense releases to Spielzeug 7.
Then came along the new sound(very diff) which continued with Hivid ep on CR and is present again on the first track on Pain 33.
I dont dig it completely but it is defo getting more interesting from the stuff before. What i meant to say was that i havent whitnessed many turns in techno production like this one. Interested in whats coming next...

Well see if he sticks to his new found technique.
Cause that loop synth chicago approach he took didn't impress me.
Everything sounded like a Bad Boy Bill cd for the past 4 years.
And yes I respect his skill his style and his talent.
But that's why I wasn't happy with his approach.

His new one on Torture is absolutely stunning.... constantly changing acid stabs... hard solid kicks and percussion... A must.

Coincidence. I was just listening to the Hivid EP and Bodycounter EP and thinking he's heading back in the right direction.

It's good to see, as umek was someone I used to look out for not so long ago.

the three tracks all sound like previous incarnations of the umek sound. theres the funky (recycled loops) one, the metallic (consumer recreation) one and the afro chant ( a la primate' voices of africa). no new ground broken what so ever from a former idol of mine.

HOWEVER on a positive note. three usable tunes from a stunning producer as standard. worth a listen.
