Electro robot voices....

...Does anyone know a good vocoder for creating those robot voices on tracks such as LFO's "We Are Back" ?? ive tried a few vocoders but they all seem to sound too clean and pristine compared to that old 80's electro sound?

You could try down grading the sample to 8bit and back again for some 'crunch'

fruity has a feat that can do some bits like that.. u can write text and it will spit out vocals all cut down word by word!

yeah fruity has a little program like that, ive used it on a couple of electro tracks i did.... u have to tweak it tho to get it sounding good, and vary ur words in the text to get it sounding correct at times.... but still cool

Korg Microkorg has some amazing robot voice possibilitys.

Nah..just do a search for "text to speech". many freewares will output your little vocals as wav files for you to cut up and manipulate. SiBegg has a link on his site.

similar alternatives would be to

1) time strech your vocals a bit.

or

2) serach around the intrnet for a 'phone' or 'megaphone' effect vst. i only have it as harware so dont know a similar vst.

oo also there is a free wave editor called "GoldWave" which has a really good effect called 'mechanize' which is adjustable which may help you out.

use the fruity vocoder, it works pretty good, but its kind of an ass the set up, but i like how it sounds, you can use any vst synth with it

Vokator .. Native instruments... also use a fast lfo 2 modulate the amp (volume)! on a normal vocal that u want 2 vocodize !

macs have (os 9.x that i know of)an innate number of spell and speak robo voices

Theres also Cantor which allows you to add pitches to the words and has a piano roll interface , its 200quid but i have got some use out of the demo software Its a vocal synthesizer that doesn`t use samples and is a bit hit and miss ,but could be really interesting ,especially if you get it to sing nonsense and unpronouncable words ;)
