FreeG - Not just a meter, more than a fader



The Sonalksis FreeG is an intuitive tool that can be used for a variety of applications to increase the control and flexibility of the signal flow in the insert chain of the host.

To make the workflow and the overview of the signal processing easier, FreeG provides extended, customizable metering features and settings.

Main controls:

* The meter displays a current indication of signal level. The main display is a classic Peak-type level meter, which follows the signal in accordance with the metering type selected on the Preferences panel. The superposed red bar displays the current instantaneous signal RMS.
* Selecting 'Pre' switches the fader to display the pre-fader, pre-pan, pretrim input signal.
* The fader is the main plug-in control, and allows you to adjust the level of the incoming signal.
* PEAK: This box, and the red arrows on the meter, displays the current highest peak value recorded (using the metering law configured on the Preferences panel). Click boxes to reset.
* RMS: This box, and the yellow arrows on the meter, displays the current highest instantaneous RMS value recorded. Click the boxes to reset.
* The Trim dial provides a course input level adjustment. The Trim range can be configured using the preferences panel.
* The Pan dial allows a stereo signal to be panned to the left or to the right. The Pan law is configured using the preferences panel.
* The Flip Phase button inverts the phase of the signal, for mixing applications.
* The Bypass button provides a soft-bypass for the plug-in.
* The Mute button will mute the signal.
* Fine mode allows for an alternate method of fine-calibration of the fader. When the fader is set approximately, pressing 'Fine' will 'zoom in' on the fader, and offer a linear-law fader, which you can adjust with greater accuracy. The range of the Fine scale can be configured in the Preferences panel.

It's a sort of multitap delay with panning and controllable morphing between settings.
Instead of controlling each echo separately, there's a bunch of parametrized functions that you can use to generate various kinds of effects.

Cormac Daly has released Thaw, a VST plug-in for the creation and manipulation of static and drone sounds using the phase vocoder.

Thaw was created as part of a Masters in Music Technology academic project whose aim was to explore the use of the phase vocoder for the creation and manipulation of static and drone sounds.

Thaw can be used for creating a perceptual ’snapshot’ of a sound and then creating drones using a number of effects including a low frequency oscillator and a pitch shifter.

The scientific and musical background of this project, as well as an explanation of the inner workings of the software, can be found in the accompanying thesis.

EQ22



EQ22 is a 5Band equaliser, with each band covering 2 octaves, with a tuning control to globally scale the centre freqencies of the bands.
It serves 3 functions:

1: To be a 5 Band passive EQ - EQ22 is equipped to perform standard attenuation in each band.
2: To restore dynamics in an audio stream. When a fader is raised above the halfway mark, the proprietary 'Transient Dispersion' algorithm takes over the processing of the band, and will enhance the dynamic range using various latency-free adaptive techniques.
3: To provide a basic 'Tube' section for those who don't own a 'Tube amp'.

The TR-CCC is like a drum machine, whose sounds were created on the basis of a "Click" sound.
This rhythm box incorporates a random generator of rhythmic sequences, it can be synchronized with your host application.

The TR-CCC also answers to the MIDI notes (C4 to C5 without #) and can be sequenced via your sequencer.

It is also possible to play the random generator in addition to the Midi part of your host sequencer.

Blue Cat's Gain Suite



This plug-in suite is a simple series of gain utilities which let you control the volume of an audio track. The interest of these plug-ins resides in their automation and advanced MIDI control capabilities (the response curve of the MIDI controllers can be fully customized). Used together with one of our analysis tools or a MIDI controller, these plug-ins let you remotely control and automate the gain of each channel of the audio signal.

The plug-in bundle contains a stereo and a mid/side version for independent control of the left and right or mid and side channels. It can be very useful for stereo widening/narrowing. Additional information about stereo widening with mid/side processing can be found in this paper.

Last but not least, the skinning capabilities of this plug-in allow you to customize the way you interact with it.
