is it just me or does the so called "swedish invasion" sound an awful lot like a couple swedes trading bongo loops and compression? anybody ever notice drum code has pretty much the same loops in every record?

hmmm... :roll: well if there all the same they must all be good, because i like the ones i have purchased.
so who would you include in this anyways? joel mull? for a while, his songs stood out through their use of melodies. cari lekebusch? he's never sounded like any of the other swedes from that group...alexi delano? again, completely different. the svek guys? minimal and house...not applicable.Originally Posted by deafmosaic
so basically, "ikea techno," as you describe it, would be who? beyer, bacto, henrik b?
i agree that a lot of the records from that period are throwaways (countdown 2000 anyone?). but it's also a mistake to say all the swedes from that group.
besides, as americans, we should naturally fear mctechno more... ;)

lol ikeatechno and mctechno :lol:
spanish sound :?:
oh god, I bit ---------->>>
I got some lovely stuff by bacto, henrik, beyer and mull. Solid dancefloor stuff, some nice journey techno, some dark stuff.
Maybe it`s a bit samey now, but they did their bit.

back in those days, filesharing wasn't that big but now i suppose just about everybody has say the no kick series etc.
i have rediscovered so many loops i have on my hdd or cds in (famous) tunes it can be astonishing. this is a good situation for us as we can't get away with shit like that anymore, hehe.
coming to think about d'n'b which has centered around 1 well known break a great deal.... now that's really formulaistic ;)
of course, i am born swedish, raised american, i guess i should fear/embrace both...Originally Posted by basslinejunkie

And if you look at it sideways its almost looks like he shape of someone giving the finger.
it also kind of looks like an absolut bottle...absolut, ikea...very appropriate since we are discussing the damn-near-colonial swedish marketing prowess...

kind of a generalizing statement. sort of like calling all american techno detroit techno, in a way. i feel what you're saying (and even to this extent i don't really agree with you) is not entirely representative of swedish techno.Originally Posted by deafmosaic
