Yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing something grittier from Hawtin alright. I heard him play a few months ago and his set was ending with old classics like "Circus Bells" and "Energy Flash", and that was as intense as it really got. I guess he might not be hearing much tougher stuff that he likes recently, doesn't seem like he'd be too bothered either way though.
and you damned kids lay off dsp etc.! richie hawtin is to techno what vanilla ice was to rap music. some dude who has good PR and gets paid outragious amounts of money and gives the rest of us a bad name. f ucking minimal shminimal superstar asshole.
i think its great.. i reckon if anyone could come up with something totally differant it'll be richie.. probably something vangelis-ish. given the chance i'd jump at it!
and i'm not a richie fan btw.
i would rahter see ricky villalobos play than richie to be honest, at least he is a good dood with a nice disposition. said it b4 and i will say it again "RICHIE SUX".
and as for "something diferent"? hahahahahaahahahahahah richie aint made something diferent since he stole the sound of rob hood and whitewashed it.
You left out Villalobos at the end of that sentence :)Originally Posted by deafmosaic
Ah c'mon, that's silly, of course he has.Originally Posted by deafmosaic
Why the constant Rob Hood comparisons here too? People seem to take the 'minimal' tag too literally sometimes I think. What Hawtin and Hood have done have been entirely different.
I wish richie all the best! this is amazing for him! For a kid who was just making good music in the beginning, he's marketed himself so brilliantly that now, he's opening at the olympics.
For techno? Yeah EXCELLENT! If some more ppl enquire about our sound then GREAT!!!
I really can't understand the haters. 'Damn, he's got a brain annd is into commericalism so **** him'. Bah.. give him the respect he deserves.
Really, what the hell is taking this sound to millions gonna do for techno? For years i used to think it would destroy it. but now, i realise techno, no matter what, is wayyyyy too forward thinking to ever let commercialism destroy it. THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF TECHNO!!! it's an ethos of moving forward - NOT a complete sound.
How brilliant would it be if all people all over the world understoood this???????
I really am thinking we need to move forward. Techno has been an old boys club for too long.
Ahhh I'm talking out loud here. Just my thoughts anyway. :)
sunil: i want some of whatever you are smoking. richie just copied rob hood and then led the sheffield boys to do the same and the guys music is more boring that ever.
mark - do you & richie use the same hair "stylist" ?
i love old plastikman sh*t...
...i'm not crazy about the new stuff though.
but that's just me...

If he led the likes of Gez Farley (G-Man) into making minimal techno then so be it, he did well ;)Originally Posted by deafmosaic
Well, I dunno if you can really compare many of Hawtin's big tracks even, to any of Hood's. I mean what about "Spastik", that in a sense is 'hard minimal techno', but nothing like Rob Hood? That was a totally unique track.
I have never ever thought of or heard any similarities between hood or hawtin. Hood is far more direct and intense than hawtin is and you could say that about any of the earlier minimal stuff. Hawtin has done his thing from the start, I've never liked any of it but thats not the point.Originally Posted by deafmosaic
I think whatever people think of hawtin should be put aside in this instance. This is a great achievement for him and would have been unheard of a couple of years ago, maybe its a sign that things are changing a little.

Yeah I don`t get the hood thing either.
Hood was more straight minimal.
Hawtin brought some life into the cold electronics by adding the funk of dub to the minimal sound.
Solitary by nature.
Isolation is the gift.
Does anyone have courage to stand apart any more?

C'mon I've seen Mark's cornrows.
That's Chrissi all the way.
I'll also as stated before agree with Mark on this one the exposure to techno alone will be tremendous.
A seed will be planted.
