you can actually buy "How crap is your Hard House?" testing kits from most branches of woolies, smiths and various motorway service stations. Really handy, just play your Hard House into its mini inbuilt microphone, and it gauges on its little chart just how crap your Hard House really is

they dont work for Techno though, but i mean we all know that all techno is crap anyway so we are fine

Surely there is a techno hardness test.

Something about a hardened tungsten bolt dropped onto the record or something, with the hardness measure against a scale.

you can measure hardness, but can you measure badness?

"Can you measure the hardness of techno?"

Yeah, apparently you need to just measure how much distortion and compression is used. Example: Carnage 003 = very hard, SAB011 = very soft.

well, if you apply the following equation for hardness...

    you get this...

of course, if improperly calculated, you might end up with this...

one suggestion would be to stand in front of a large stack whilst the tune to be tested is played repeatedly at high volume. if after dancing about like a maniac without the help of stimulants for 60 mins you are still fit for more, then clearley it is not hard enough!!!
