Never really listened to any of his stuff and always hear so much about him I figure Im missing out. So what albums/releases of his would people particularly suggest to get hold of?
Cheers :)

As im not massively into Minimal, I would suggest you listen to his Dex, EFX & 909 mix CD. Its the CD that got me into Techno!
It is a timeless classic

TRUE... it's an essential. Minimal, but much more dancefloor-orientated than his more recent stuffOriginally Posted by Split-Personality

Another vote for Dex, EFX & 909 mix! Superb stuff. :cheese:
Still not heard DE9 yet though. Really must check it out some time soon.
non serviam
I always found the DE9 Closer To The Edit a liitle bit hollow for my liking, in that I prefered the more dance floor orientated techno to be found in Dex EFX but I do not deny the skill and idealogy the mix stands for.
Maybe now with current trends being as they are I would probably like it more now
Is DE9 a tad minimal and less dancefloor material then?
I really have no idea.
In a word, YEP
When Richie gets going on the DEX, EFX & 909 around track 35 with "Join in the chant" and "Oh yeah - Yello" he absolutely KILLS it
Plastikman - Sheet One
DE9 isnt really dancefloor techno for me. More the sort of thing i'd listen to at home.
Some cracking tracks on there though and great mixing...if I remember correctly he's using an early Final Scratch.
Still haven't heard Dex eFx and 909 though - we'll have to do a swap Si
also check:
fuse - substance abuse
circuit breaker - trak-x
plastikman - panikattack
system 7 - alpha wave (plastikman acid house mix)

reality is war.
In reference to mix cd's: I am surprised no one mentioned the MixMag Live! mix cd from '94 or '95. There are some ****ing classics on that CD and anybody into acid house should check it out. If heavier or busier techno is your thing then you should check out the first DE9. I wasn't really into Closer to the Edit but I thought Transitions was done really well. Even though his track selections may not be my top choice, his mix cd's usually go above and beyond (conceptually) what most people put into a mix cd.
As for albums: Sheet One is a good place to start, and work your way up. :)
I'm looking forward to the documentary that Slices is putting out. Richie's an interesting character and there are those who love him and those who hate him. I'm curious to see if the documentary stays relatively netural or leans to a certain side of that debate. Regardless of whether people like Richie Hawtin or not, I'm sure it will be a welcomed history lesson. Speaking of documentaries, I just saw High Tech Soul last week and it was pretty impressive for the most part.
