Apparently 19 out of the 30 judges voted him the top player ahead of the likes of Messi - not bad! At least one Arsenal player's getting the recognition he deserves, hopefully that'll continue throughout his career.

I think he deserves it. He's pratically the first player on the arsenal teamsheet every week for the last two years. Broke into the spanish team before the world cup (the youngest player to play for them since the 20s or something).
And not to mention he is absolutely quality!
Messi played about 3 hours of football this year, give the award to someone who deserves it, for being consistently amazing.
