Nah dude not flimsy at all.. they were packed into a carryon gear bag that was overpacked, and when it tipped over on the tube all of the weight went right onto one cup and popped some screws.

Definitely not a fault of the build quality, but more my own :)

well i am sat here listening to the 880's for the very first time and i'm pretty damn godsmaked. i can't believe i've been mixing off the hd25's for my whole life - my god i've been missing out BIG TIME!!! these phones are lovely, they don't rest on your ears like the 25's and the sound is, well, lovely. they're definitely not flimsy and i really like the way you can hear a conversation with them on, this will be very very helpful to me and chrissi together in the studio.

thanks to all concerned! i will update you as the months go on!

Main difference is closed back (770) vs semi-open (880.
I'm sure the actual response varies a bit as well..

thx xfive i noticed that from the specs/photos and was hoping for a more comprehensive comparison... both models are praised in this thread independently, but i would like to know how they stack up against each other, after all the price difference is quite substantial.

well i would think mate that the more expensive usually means better as far as this sort of shit goes. i cant' comment on the 770's but after 2 days solid mixing on these beauty's i can say that you're gonna be a very very happy guy if you save your pennys.

if anything after 2 days, i would say i wish the top was a little more defined. it's good but it's not quite as good as my mackie speakers, but then again when are you honestly gonna get headphones as good a speakers hehe....

these shit all over my former headphones. i can believe it. i really can't honestly get over the difference.

making music without pissing off the neighbours has never been more pleasurable. :cheese:

If they lasted longer the Pioneer HDj-1000's aren;t too bad....but if you buyt hem get the extended warranty cause they like to short out on the right side.

Otherwise ignore me and do what Mark tells you to do...

    not necessarily

"In their own music, Daft Punk uses a number of different compressors. “We have a really small compressor, the Alesis 3630, which is $300. That's the main one we used on Homework and Discovery. The one we used the most is one of the cheapest ones on the market. It's really funny; it's the bricolage thing. Sometimes you don't have to have the most expensive equipment to make good music.” "

Would y'all have a preferred make of headphones for djing as opposed to studio work? If so - which? Or would a good quality pair be suitable for both?

the 3630 is shit, technically (cheap parts etc.). can be modded. doesn't mean it doesn't have its uses, though.

    Just bought some 770s

    They are sweeeet

Got the 80ohm model instead though. It was all they had in stock, and my shitty mini mixer isn't powerful enought to do the 250 model anyways

I love my 770's ive heard the 880s as well, the 880's are definately better no question but for 85 quid you really cant go wrong with the 770s.

they're VERY comfortable and really do make writing music queitly a pleasure. I also notice that if i write something on the 770s it sounds about right when coming back onto speakers.

    best headphones EVER full stop...

and watching a film with them on is ACE!
