The manner in which instruments reproduce sound will be the next to change as will the mode of delivery. Entire walls as speakers and floors as sub bass devices.

or individual speaker systems that do not require headphones.

man, i'd still like to think we would interact with them using our hands, dont like the idea of people making dance music without moving hehe. you could be right though, think devices like that will be developed in time.

If you want to read some inspired ideas for music technology of the future, you should read Needle in the Groove by Jeff Noon.

I know Tim exile from years back. He pretty much built himself a musical instrument - a custom MIDI controller synched up to reaktor, with custom programmed FX and actions.

More instruments like that I reckon, but with more universal controllers and intuitive software behind them that interprets your movements rather than just actioning them out.

Interpretive instruments. That would be cool. My air guitar would translate to jimi hendrix...

    That's what I was thinking.
A sequencer that exists in virtual reality, allowing you to add layers, manipulate waveforms and do everything you can do with a sequencer now, but with your virtual hands.
