From Acid to Detroit with side excursions into other realms, this is a decent enough representation of where my head was at 5+ years ago. Toss in a bit of Chi-town and some minimal bleep funk and you'd be squared off with the stuff that snared me.

I did have a slightly more mellow show planned, but then an order arrived. New Coin Op, Bombtrap, etc all arriving at once means everything else goes out the window. Dj Mem also saw fit to snail mail me a copy of Nasty Colour 7 which as you may recall I was raving about when I posted it. My opinion still stands on it. Class EP! Since I'm on a bit of a mid 90's Techno trip down memory lane as well I grabbed some stuff off the shelves that some of you may remember. Advent, before...well...whatever it is The Advent does now and other stuff that was heavily influenced by the Detroit and/or the Swedish crowd.

Look forward to Leon Segka's show which he should be finishing off soon and The Donk Boys just offered up a live-set as well. The coming weeks should be good!

    Default Bleep 122: Donk Boys

    Bleep 122
    Aired: August 7th, 2008
Mixed by: Donk Boys (SE) / Myspace

The Donk Boys consists of Martin Abrahamsson and Thomas Jaldemark, both hailing from Sweden. I originally met Martin around the time of their first Donk Boy release via one of the TSR boys who knew him in person -presumably because they lived in Malmo for a period at the same time.

Ever since that chance encounter I've been very thankful to TSR Tomas for telling me about the Donks as I've come to really enjoy their sense of rhythm and the timbrel palette they use. Mostly of course because it's all a 2nd wave rehash of DBX and .Xtrak style bleep and glonk tracks. Only in spirit though, they do have their own angle on things and they do it very well. I know of no one else that can do what they're doing as well as they're doing it. Which I think shows through whenever I write something about a set or release of theirs.

Needless to say I was very elated to find an email from Thomas last week asking me if I wanted to use a freshly recorded live set for Bleep Radio. I hope you enjoy the set/show.

For those of you who wanted something a little harder....Here you go.

Admittedly I sorta faded out on the end. The last three tracks were the result of me not having stuff picked out in advance and I had to use what was on hand already. I'm pretty sure, because of the mood I'm and the records in the mail, that the next few Bleeps will be ball-busters.

    Default Bleep 125: Subhead Tribute

    Bleep 125
    Aired: August 28th, 2008
Mixed by: Mike Holmes (UK) & Trevor Wilkes (CA) / Fun in the Murky / Bleep Radio

Subhead is one of the names responsible for me 'getting into this stuff'. When I first started record shopping, and had nothing in mind for it other than wanting to own some good music, the local record store owner quickly realized my tastes were for the more odd. He threw me a Subvoice record and a Subhead record to go with my already confirmed tastes in Chicago and Detroit. From that point on I was hooked.

It's been several years since Phil and Jason worked together as Subhead, but their legacy lives on and their solo work still shines above most of the rest. Jason will continue to wow us all with the breadth of stuff he can do and I always look forward to each new EP. Phil, unfortunately, passed away almost a year ago. His Dj Sueme material, Dot Com label and the multitude of people who had respect for him will keep it weird on his behalf though.

This episode of Bleep Radio was Mike Holmes' idea. he gave me his segment of it way tooo many months ago to even remember straight. Sorry it took so long to get my arse in gear and finish it off. I hope you all dig what Mike and I put together.

    Default Bleep 126: Cain

    Bleep 126
    Aired: September 4th, 2008
    Mixed by: Cain (Malta)

Cain was a guest way back in August of 2006. Ever since then he's had the offer of doing another show, but it wasn't until just this month he was finally able to tear himself away from his busy life in Malta to record something new. For the last few years now Malta's Techno scene has been eating up the skew-whiff Techno like an unhealthy addiction and Cain --amongst others-- has been doing his best to help further that into something even more.

Bleep's goal is to bring quality dance-floor music, music without it's head up it's arse, to areas where it's seemingly lacking. Stale music has taken over and needs to move over. Variety is one component of Bleep, but only one of many. Look forward to hearing many forms of Electronic music with labeling of the sub-genres firmly ignored. We need less labels, not more. Techno is the label that Bleep assumes, but it's the Techno label of days gone by...with a sense of humour.

    Default Bleep 127: Trevor Wilkes

    Bleep 127
    Aired: September 11th, 2008
Mixed by: Trevor Wilkes (CA) / Fun in the Murky / Bleep Radio

Bleep 127 is the result of another dig. I've run out of room on my shelves so I had to 'archive' some vinyl. In the process of putting some stuff away for an undetermined amount of time I came across some stuff I wanted to play. Naturally. It's very hard to dig through and not want to jam immediately afterwords.

Next week Bleep 128 is a broken beat treat. from Si Begg to Sueme, The Dexorcist to the ridiculous.

Bleep 128 is, as you can see I'm sure, a bit of a busted beat send off. I was gathering up some records for an Electro mix, but got a bit distracted with some other stumbled-across nuggets.

I stumbled across Martin a few weeks back ad have since then discovered I liked both of the releases he has under his belt so far. When it comes to the Detroit sound we both seem to be on the same or at least a similar wave length so I offered him a Bleep spot. This is the result of that offer.

No live airing this week I'm afraid, only the archive download. My work schedule is in heavy flux right now and Bleep may even switch times completely soon. Perhaps something closer to it's original schedule back in 2003 (Tuesdays @ 2pm). We'll see what can be worked out for the few who tune in live. As for the rest of you who download...business as usual!

    Default Bleep 131: Leon Segka

    Bleep 131
    Aired: October 9th, 2008
    Mixed by: Leon Segka (Greece)

It was 6 months ago when Leon and I first started talking about him doing a Bleep Show. It's been a long time coming, but then most of the shows are. They tend to be influenced by whatever came out during a given month and then recorded and sat on for months at a time.

This mix that was mentioned was what convinced me that Leon could deliver the goods. I was hoping for a similar set, but I never ask for a Bleep guest to cater to my whimsical ways. Once asked for a set a Bleep guest can do whatever his or her heart desires. So while Leon's set isn't what I'd hoped for, it is still quality music arranged and assembled in a quality fashion. Now that I've listened to it several times I do recommend giving it a whirl. it''s minimal, it's tech house it's techno the way it's supposed to be: varied, genre bending and influenced by more than just the latest top 10 on Beatport or what Richie is playing. Most importantly it has none of that progressive or trance-like stuff that seems to be more and more pervasive.

    Leon Segka: Discogs,Myspace,Ntrop Recordings

Next week's Bleep will be non-existent. I will be on vacation in London with my long time girlfriend / new wife. See ya'll in 2 weeks.

I arrived home from my vacation thinking I would have to get my arse in gear right away and record a Bleep show. I was very grateful to find a request in my inbox from Sebastian over at klot.net asking if I would like to use his newest set on Bleep. Well it turns out Sebastian plays some pretty mean minimal bleep so of course I said yes!

    Default Bleep 134: EDMX

    Bleep 134
    Aired: November 6th, 2008
    Mixed by: EDMX (UK)

As opposed to the regular mix format of Bleep Radio, this week is a more standard 'radio' format. It comes to us all courtesy of Ed Upton who you know by some of the following names: edmx, dmx krew and, computor rockers (as a small sampling). I stumbled across Ed's first podcast and was so impressed with it I had to get in touch with him about possibly doing another one for Bleep.

We're all here now so you know what became of that email exchange.

It's informative, insightful and in my opinion it's something that is lacking for this area of music. I firmly believe that more people would be more appreciative and more supportive if there were more shows like this for them to listen to. Dj mixes are fantastic and we all love to download new ones to burn for in car entertainment (or where ever you prefer to listen), but when it comes to luring new blood into the scene it needs to be more accessible and we need to encourage new people to learn as much as they can about it at the same time. This is a great resource for this goal, especially with it's very broad and open minded approach. Of course Ed's great taste in music certainly helps!

Big thanks go to Ed, let him know if you like his podcast so he'll be willing to make more in the future. The music needs it.

Default Bleep 136: Dj Dro San

    Bleep 136
    Aired: November 20th, 2008
Mixed by: Dj Dro San (Portugal)

Drosan got the taste for mixing in the early 90s, when for the first time he entered a night club. First he began as a lightjockey and then worked his way out to djing. It's fair to remember that in those days "techno" music was kicking of in Lisbon. Club "Kremlin" made the difference where To Pereira %28a few years later known as dj Vibe%29 played that rithmatic, body movin music that so much inspired him. Also, he was lucky to have met Paulo "Escobar" one of the most respected djs back then to teach him.

More or less between 1991/94 Drosan played at matines like those classic "Zona+" afternoons, partys, clubs, a bit everywhere... 1995 was a bit underground... in 1996 he received a proposal to be the resident dj at club "Climacz". There he met his big mate dj Ze Mig l, another big influence and motive to evolve... Drosan started producing (1997) and continue djing, once again, underground. In between he likes to remember those freaky outdoor parties, those private friends parties and now and then a few club parties, this last ones were so few due to the bad times "techno" music was going thru. He also worked at dj Ze Mig l shop.
Along the way dj Mem became is big mate to and toghether they dj, produce music and founded in the year 2004 Nasty Colour records.

This set was recorded at what is lovingly referred to as the "Skoolyard Club" in Portugal. When someone works at a School and there is free space not being used, the only thing I can think to do with it is to convert that free space into a dance club at night once per month. It makes perfect sense. This jammin' little set was recorded at one of these nights back in October for Dj Urbe's birthday celebration.

    Bleep 138
    Aired: December 4th, 2008
    Mixed by: Trevor Wilkes (CA)

As far as stuff coming out right now goes, it seems to be mostly the more minimal and Acid side of things. I've got the itch to do some banging, but with most of the new stuff being merely thumpers I'm having a tough time playing and learning the new stuff and digging through the older stuff to find some corkers to let loose with. Granted, this week in the mail several top notch records have arrived from the rawer end of the spectrum, most notably the 'Epic Madness" ep by Axel Sohns and his crew of merry jackers. I will probably be giving that one a healthy work out real soon and I can't wait to get started.

    Track-list:
