It's like Deja-vu all over again....back in April 2006, Tory Pierce, like so many others from the Minus crew, made his Irish debut at Electric City alongside Donnacha Costello. At least when we copy things, we copy ourselves & not other promoters two years ago or whatever. How and ever, we've got the PLUR, not the poison here at EC HQ so let's rise up like Easter 1916 and give you the rundown for the next step of EC 5.0 celebrations.
After being raised in the cornfields of Indiana and brought up on Midwest house & techno (Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Derrick Carter, D-Wynn), Troy Pierce became a bit jaded by ten years in New York where the struggling minimal techno scene consisted of a handful of die-hard fanatics going against the diva-tribal-tech-house of a city that has seen it's day musically. Berlin seemed like the logical solution, go to the source. Troy is 1/3 of Run.Stop.Restore - the collective which also features Magda & Marc Houle. Troy was also the man with the plan behind the Slacknoise release on M-Nus from last year. He featured under both these guises on the scene-defining 'Minimize to Maximize' compilation on M_Nus which was released to worldwide acclaim last year.
Since his last appearance, Troy (aka Slacknoise) has released the killer Gone Astray album and remixed Heartthrob, The Knife, Depeche ****ing Mode, Cybotron's electro classic 'Clear', and eh Tiga which was on ehhhhhh Global Underground...anyway PLUR, he's also the Minus crews' DJ of choice and if you've heard the 'Nothing Much And Something More' Mix CD on Minus, you know why. Deep track selection skills, smooth wavelength (Quinn!) building up to a c-c-c-crescendoooo. Last time the doors were shut tighter than a Liverpool-away-in-Europe-back-8-with-Mascherano-just-in-front-formation so make sure you're inside the tent pissing out and get down early with a ticket.
As if that wasn't enough, we've got a DJ set from Donnacha Costello who tears the club up every time whether it's live or Djing. Donnacha has been busy over recent times with the essential Black Bag Job being played by everyone from the Minus crew to the Chelsea captain. A remix of Mark Broom's 'New Life' track on Minimise was hot hot hot and Donnacha has been playing gigs across the "Continent" where they sell large Capri Sun's in loads more flavours than they do down in Dunnes in the Mill.
EC 5.0 - coming to soon to another club in about 2 years time. Don't be too late for the trend.
