I've got 2 numark axis 9 cdj's and have to say they are excellent value for money. OK numark hasn't the best rep but for the features u get for £200 quid each including scratching, spin backs and vinyl like cue ups u cant beat it.

still would love pioneers tho............ *fades into a cdj400 dream*

p.s. much cheaper 2nd hand on ebay too!

    Just my 2p on this...

I have never, ever, seen anything other than Pioneer CD decks in any club or free party I've ever been to or played at.

I've heard a plethora of arguments about how product X, Y or Z is technically superior (particularly the Denon range) but the Pioneer has the edge on ubiquity.

whatever you do, don't bother with the technics ones... you really don't need a cd player that pretends to be a turntable, it's pointless.

    those denons look good though.

eh so what about the pionner sdj100 mk3 - the direct drive platter is exactly like a turntable if not better??

you can't do that on the denon.

If you have a laptop and you have decks, then something like Final Scratch is cheaper and less hassle than CD decks. Especially if you're getting a pair, and once you have one you'll eventually want two.

In fact, even if you don't have a laptop you can probably get something of a good-enough spec for around the £350 mark, so FS + laptop is fair cheaper than two CDJ1000s.

It's definitely better, that's my point. it has a vinyl mode for spinbacks and stuff, but other than that, its platter allows you to be a lot more accurate with cuing and beat-matching than the Technics one, which just tries (and fails) to emulate a 1210.

    Just get final scratch/serato/traktor scratch

You could buy a new laptop and traktor scratch for the price of 2 decent CD decks.

yeah but with two cd decks your talking up a lot less room than a laptop , two turntables and the final scratch thing.

i think i would neeed to have a go at both for a week or so before i could decide.

i'd like the cd decks , because i know a lot of people/venues you cd decks (equally so final scratch, probably ((i dont really go out much))) and i like to know how to mix with cd decks if im at a party or summat.

Depends on if you're planning on having traditional vinyl as well.

If not then you're quite right: CD decks will take up less room.

That said, if you're planning on phasing out vinyl completely then I'd consider Ableton over anything else.
