    thought these pics might interest some of you. started 3 weeks ago and i have to say its outstanding. spent last nights class studying the schematics and signal flow of one of the desks.. pretty interesting stuff!

    anyway, heres the pics (and check out the kit list in studio 1 - pure gear porn!!)

    Looks the business mate. How much is your course costing you, and what are you learning?

    Going to do a mastering course later this year, amazing prices over here only drawback is I got to do it in spanish. I'm hoping the universal language of knob twiddling will see me through...

    costs a few grand a year

    but well worth it.

    we cover the entire city&guilds engineering and recording course, so i'll have a C&G higher diploma in sound engineering & recording techniques as well as pro-tools 101, 110 & 210 with the option to go on to pro-tools expert levels.

    a mastering course would be the business.. and i reckon if you twiddle with their knobs you might get a discount

    I did a distance C&G course for engineering and production.

    But with no studio time, it was all a bit theoretical. Although you did learn a little about a lot... Lots of studio time and you'll be laughing. That place looks the business.

    Mastering courses are pretty much a waste of time really IMHO.
    What you need is an apprenticeship or just some work under an engineer as assistant.
    There is some theory but it`s all based on ear time and hands on really, and a mastering course simply doesn`t give you the ear time unless it`s one on one 5 days a week.
    Most courses are great for personal knowledge gain, but do nothing when it comes to employment, as like media degrees, music tech qualified students are running around like diarrhea.

    Get down a local studio and see if you can get some part time work with a mastering engineer you will learn more in 3 months that way, than an entire year on a course.

    i kinda agree with steve there. it is a bit of an odd course to do. but i can see the educational advantages.

    the problem with getting an apprenticeship steve is that everyone and their dog is trying to get one but theres a lot less studios about these days so i can see where jay is coming from.

    jay, have a look into doing the pro-tools course in conjunction with the mastering, that would give you a couple of nice qualifications.

    Well it`s all dependant on location really.

    In london you can throw a stone and it will hit a studio, and most people don`t even think of approaching a studio for coaching, everyone reads sound on sound or whatever, sees glossy adds for SAE or insert name here institute, and does a course.
    I was the last apprentice at Jam, not because they weren`t taking on anyone, but because no one thought to ask.

    It`s not easy to get into an apprenticeship, no, but then it`s not easy to get ahead in any area of music, full stop.
    It`s who you know, how you build your contacts, how you present yourself etc.
    Talent comes down the list somewhere.

    With apprenticeships and getting your foot in the door, having the gift of the gab, and a good rapport with whoever you are aiming at is essential.

    That`s what NLP is for though ;)

    unfotunatly where i am theres only a handful of commercial studios.. with my college being one of them outside school hours.

    Well sure, and your not doing a mastering course either, wasn`t really talking about you.
