Thumbs down IMPORTANT / Scrap the 696 petition!

Uk based? Wanna play in the Uk?

696 is a document that promoters would have to submit to Police before putting on an event, saying what type of music they intend to put on, and the ethnicity of the expected punters, as well as other information such as date of birth and address of all the artists and performers.

this isn't for real, surely? Knowing the birth dates and personal information on the acts that you put on crosses some privacy laws?

This is already in action in london

Although not a legal precedent, large venues will now not confirm any event until this data is filled out for your event.
This info is passed on to the Met and the licensing commission.
If you don`t do it, the venues submitting to this "scheme" will not allow your event to go ahead.

I`ve already had to give my details to a few events because of this, and with my dealing with the law back when I was a very naughty london party organiser, you can bet I was spitting over this.

Australia will go the same way, they follow US and UK precendent.
Me mate who is a serious legal expert (especially in media, idea and copyright law, and fighting for the rights of the individual over the corporation) left the uk for OZ years ago as he was sick of western legal trends.
He is now leaving Oz as he says that the same shit is trickling down there now.

Antarctica is the only safe bet.

The former singer of punk band The Undertones was specifically addressing MPs about the impact of the 2003 Licensing Act.

He voiced concerns to Billboard.biz about police statements during the passage of the legislation linking music events with crime, and said there has been "inconsistency" with how the Act has been applied across the U.K. Sharkey cited the example of Moonfest, where in August Wiltshire Police used section 160 of the Act to prevent alt-rock act Babyshambles, featuring Pete Doherty, performing at the event.

Superintendent Paul Williams of Wiltshire Police said at the time the band's tendency to "speed up and then slow down the music" could create a "whirlpool effect" and spark disorder. It is believed to be the first time the 2003 Act has been used in such a way.

    Everybody sing along now

    This is the end
    Beautiful friend
    This is the end
    My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
    But youll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
Signed the petition, but what does democracy have anything to do with it.

The poll tax was vehemently fought against.
    It went through.
    CJA opposed
    Went through

We get the government we deserve.
We voted, democracy is setting us free.

    It won't
    It's a load of shit
the police will never enforce it properly
and if they do and some kid gets knifed in their area while they are all farting around with it
they'll have some serious questions to answer .
the police also hate doing this kind of work
it's completely non productive and pointless
nothing to get worried about i don't think.
it's more the venues being paranoid than anything else.

i had to fill out one of these forms last new years eve. it's bollocks. the less we all worry about it, the less it will blow up. problem is, once the inet gets hold of this, it'll become public and then before you know it, it'll be an issue.

honestly guys, don't fuel the fire...

    my 2 cents :)
