Sampler to run off hard sequencer

Hi all,

I got a cheap EMU xl 7 sequencer secondhand, and I want a decent (and also very cheap) sampler to run offa it. Problem is I know f*!k all about hardware samplers. I want one that has reverb and delay on send effects, and at least 16 parts. How much memory do I need to play an hour and a half live set? Also, would prefer to use loops, but I suppose this takes more memory?

Any advice u guys could give me would be greatly appreciated!

price / quality... Yamaha A3000 or A4000 or A5000.. it isn't that easy 2 find a sampler with efx 4 a cheap price.... so....

Maybe look in the 2nd hand markett... an Akai S500o could b a good thing if it includes the efx expansion!

Depends on how many samples u need and how long they are...

1m of Audio CD quality takes about 10mb (44.1Khz, 16 Bit, stereo)



Also, would prefer to use loops, but I suppose this takes more memory?

I think you could probably get yout hardware sampler fully load with ram and expansion boards if you look around in the second-hand market, and for a reasonable, maybe, cheap price too. Check, though, user forums for whatever sampler you are seriously considering. Better to know what problems come with each model before you decide to buy. ;)

I have a A5000 I am more or less willing to part with. It has an 8GB hard drive and 86 megs of ram. I had a SCSI CD burner for it, but alas my partner Ian "threw it away."

I'll throw the floppy disk back in it, as well. I had a ZIP drive for it but that seems to have been misplaced too. It might be around here somewhere.

was lookin at an a3000, but I suppose a 5000 would be better, if not too expensive. Thing is I'm just wantin it to play around with, maybe get a setup to hopefully play live someday (daydreamin again!)

where do you live first of all?

The Yamaha A4000/5000 are a great choice. Quality efx that will be hard to find on another sampler in that price range.

They are also really flexible in regards to their operation, especially in single mode because you can still use all 16 channels on any sample.

Thanks, Dustin, but I've managed to pick a a3000 v2 up locally, should do what i need (besides, i'm on the Isle of Man - big postage!)
