    Belfast aint too healthy...

i put on a Pure Plastic Night with Mark Broom & Rue East LIVE... 61 ppl
    Jamie Bissmire.. 48 ppl

likewise, another techno night in the same venue had Guy McAffer LIVE last night and pulled... 30-40 ppl

and it aint bad promotion. u think its bad in England ? belfast is suffering from severe clubbing apathy..

but i'm still doing nights. got some friends from Dublin (Giles Armstrong & Sunil Sharpe) who have helped me with guests & gigs and these ppl are for real they are NOT about money or ego. just good music. and for all the money ive lost, its meeting ppl like Sunil & Giles that keep my faith..

    THIS IS NOT OVER YET

Our techno scene here in Melbourne is quite good. There is quite a bit of variety in techno styles! There are one off club nights popping up all the time and some are really pushing new sounds which is great for the scene.

There's also a few monthly nights that play the harder stuff as well.

The thing is you have to find some of these nights as they don't blatantly advertise like the big commercial parties do.

    Belgium,

Sorry for my bad English but I will do my best.
I’m a technohead for 8 years now and I saw it change from a new sound to a borring commercial scene. If people are spoilt than it sure is the Belgium clubbers.
With events like I Love Techno peeps had the chance to see the biggest names of the world in one evening a year. If you did a night with only one international name on it then it isn’t good enough for them. The big mass that you see on evnts like ILT are kids who want to **** themself up with xtc (cheaper than drinking a beer here) and go crazy on the “hype”.
A good thing is that this event is loosing people so the big hype is getting smaller again. After Clear channel took over they had bad comments of people who were into the music with their heart. Other events had to cancell dates an names because CC had exclusive contracts with them. That time 2 generations of techno grow in Belgium. Die hard small party nutheads and the big mass wanna be boom boom heads (who came from trance clubs because that scene is almost dead)
The smaller party’s are bringing the good sound now this days but the problem is that there are to many small party’s in one evening. We are killing each other wile the big once stay alive beacuses we can’t fight them with names. In one weekend there sometimes are 10 gigs in a small country like Belgium. But even here you have the problem that some concepts only started of to jump on the money techno train without interest in the music. But the old small concepts stay alive and the good fresh no money concepts survive.
You can get every kind of techno here in Belgium only the dark, broken beat stuff stays in dj’s there sleeping room. But I think this is changing these days when I see dj’s there charts lately. Let’s hope! So the music goes form hard tek parties to techhouse back to bleepy, minimal wicked tech sounds.
Then ther is the event kozzmozz. This one is going on for several years now. Started small, got big but changedagain. Lately this concept has changed his approach on the scene by putting up line ups with Surgeon, Ruskin, etc .... and keep it in a small old theater. In this case people who stayed away from mass events are united again and this results in one of the best bigger parties of Belgium also spending much time in the search for new young talents.
So don’t go to ILT because they **** up whole our scene and every support they get they longer stay alive and commercialise techno in a way it shouldn’t be done.

    Greetz unity and respect!!

    DAYTON, OHIO = noth'n

unhealthy...the best djs don't get booked. its just the kids who've had decks 2 months that end up wrecking all night...aweful. every now and then a regional favorite will come through...and all will liven up for a night.

but before the night is over some dumb-ass kids start fighting...

We have (I think it still happens) a weekly showcase of local and regional talent at a place called The Nite Owl. It was re-dubbed the fight owl...
    feking terrible.

Plus, the scene is saturated with drugs. Sure substance is part of the scene, but it didn't used to tbe THE scene. Now I don't think anyone cares about the music, rather they just want a place to take their e.

sorry to be soooo negative, but it really is a shame. I remember not too long ago when the scene here was healthy and fun and everyone knew everyone and partied and good music was important

Yeah he'll pop up a few times a year at a one off party or two, like "YFY" or something but since he's closed his club I don't think there have been any regular gigs. I'm sure he's planning something tho ;)

Techno scene here is doing pretty well! Lots of kids interested in the sound and we have a few weekly/monthly events happening..
We get our share of headliners thru here as well, for instance I just saw DJ Rush, Marco Remus, and some locals at Zentra Nightclub, then a few months back was Carola/Vigorito @ Transit, then Adam Beyer and Hawtin @ Vision Nightclub..

People around here dig techno! You should have seen the middle of Rushs' set at Zentra, everyone was going CRAZY!
