Default can we how to emulate production tips?

hey mateys. i would love some gifted producers like dave the drummer, or other musicians here tell us how a good song was produced.

like for example jeff mills 'bells' or at least tell us what they hear in the tune.

we can post links to the mp3 or just flat out ask. would the artist participate, is it not a good idea?

i would love it personally. i saw a really good presentation on smack my bitch up song which was brilliant if we can get something similar i would love it.

the bells is lots of 909s with processing, then some very basic synths.

the track itself isn't that exceptional, production wise or content wise. Its just anthemic, and a great reminder that sometimes the best stuff can be created "in the moment" instead of labourious, carefully sculpted uber polished productions.

Listening to the bells, I get the feeling he knocked it off quickly. Maybe I'm wrong, but it has the feeling of raw improvised liveness as opposed to uber studied careful polishing which tends to dominate the modern techno sound.

Thats what I love about ye olde Techno. It was a bit scruffy at times- analogue and bashed together, filtered to high heaven and full of balls. I just don't feel this polished stuff these days.

    jay thanks for the info.

danny mate, everyone used to say this in the early 2000's about the quality of music in the 90's. how good it was back then.

can you give some examples of what you are stating about fella?

I can't stand the late 80's to early 90's acid house bollocks.

98 to 2006 is my Techno time really. Examples? Primate Records, Tortured, Prime Evil, Primate endangered species, and so on and so on.

Back before Umek started this 'Astro Disco' bollocks and before Beyer started making generic sounding shuffled polished dog anus music.

Back when Speedy J was just that and a Leibing set was actually interesting.

    Examples/

    YouTube - Gaetek - Outmove

YouTube - Joey Beltram - The Start It Up

    YouTube - Dj Assault

YouTube - Dj Rush - Get on up

YouTube - Dave Clarke - Thunder

YouTube - DK8 - Murder was the Bass

    YouTube - Technasia - Cyclone ( 1999 )

YouTube - Dave Clarke - Storm

    YouTube - MidfieldGeneral - Coatnoise ( Dave Clarke remix ) ( 2000 )

    When a DJ did this:
YouTube - Dave Clarke @ Perfection

    compared to this: (arse)
YouTube - WMC 2010 Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg @ Sunday School For Degenerates Chris Liebing vs Green Velvet Auf Und Ab Kinda High Dustin Zahn Remix

Yeesh... check out the crowd in the Beyer video. Half of them are just stood there, only nodding their head instead of dancing, and some aren't even moving at all! F*ck me... Exciting stuff, huh?!

Guess it's easier to pose and look cool at 128BPM than 145BPM, right?! You don't sweat, your hair stays neatly in place, and you keep that "Mixmag" clubber look immaculately in place!

sayin that the last time a seen dave clarke it was a bit of hit and miss - started off quite dark but ended up really funky a points, was that kinda watered down type of funky techno - wasnt really impressed esp with the "This is Dave Clarke" get thrown over his set by the sampler in serato - bit cringe worthy if you ask me
