Default HOW TO UPLOAD FILEZ :=]

To upload Filez if you're a beginner:

1ST OF ALL, YOU NEED WEBSPACE. USUALLY THIS COMES FROM YOUR ISP (Internet Service Provider)... (WITH MOST OF THE ONES LIKE NTL/CABLE AND WIRELESS ETC, THEY GIVE YOU FREE WEBSPACE)

    PHONE THEM UP AND GET:

    1) 'THE URL ADDRESS FOR YOUR WEBSPACE'...

ie mine is http://www.blackoutaudio.co.uk (I use a provider that I've paid for) but yours if you are with a standard ntl/cable type provider may be http://homepage.ntlworld.com/yourname or something like that.

    2) 'THE FTP ADDRESS FOR YOUR WEBSPACE'...

Check this with your provider. Usually your ftp space will look like this: ftp://username:password@upload.ntlworld.com or similar. The username and password will be the same as your e-mail username and password half the time.

    ************************************************** **********

THEN YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO UPLOAD FILES TO THE FTP ADDRESS. USE A PROG SUCH AS WS_FTP PRO (RECOMMENDED) AND MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN THE CORRECT VALUES FOR USERNAME AND PASSWORD ETC BEFORE YOU CONNECT... THEN TRANSFER YOUR FILES AND JUMP TO THE END OF THIS POST TO LEARN HOW TO ACCESS YOUR HTTP.... or there's another way...

    ************************************************** **********

TYPE IN ftp://username:password@upload.ntlworld.com or whatever your ftp address is that you were given.

You should connect to your FTP site without any probs. But if it doesn't, type in your username and password when it asks for it.

Now minimize your web browser window and find a file you want to put onto your FTP site (lets say slut.mp3 on your hard drive). COPY it. Open up your web browser and PASTE it into your FTP site.

the url of that file would be:

the URL of your webspace you were given at the beginning of this post, plus the name of the file. ie for the puposes of this example (check the beginning if you don't understand!):

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/yourname/slut.mp3

If you want to go a stage further, you could access your FTP again, then RIGHT CLICK - NEW FOLDER - rename it 'audio', go into that new folder 'audio' and paste your mp3 there! You'll have created a directory on your FTP called 'audio'!

the URL of the mp3 would be:

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/yourname/audio/slut.mp3

ANY PROBS AT ALL - DON'T PANIC! Post your problem here and we'll all try to help, I'm sure

mark - question...if you put it in mp3 format - will media player or win amp or whatever automatically start streaming it? as i notice sometimes files to be downloaded first, and othertimes they start playing straight away?

Default FREE PUBLIC SERVERS & WEB SPACE

Yes, I have some instructions but I can't publish them until I have tried and tested our web site.

When I went to access our uploaded tracks the web host page was under construction. Obviously I can't access them until this problem is sorted. Once I know it works I will publicise the results.

Please bear with me, I hope to have some info out by Monday or Tuesday.

    Adapted from another post:

To set an MP3 to stream, upload your mp3 to your webspace,

so, for example, the url location is: http://www.yourwebsite.com/audio1.mp3

Open notepad, on your desktop (right click - new - text document). and on the first line, type in the url of the mp3 (eg// http://www.yourwebsite.com/audio1.mp3)

Save the file as eg 'audio1.m3u' (press 'save as' then type 'audio1.m3u' as the file name and make sure the drop down menu (files of type) says *.*... Click Save)

Upload this resultant .m3u file to your webspace,

To make your MP3 start to play, type in the name of this link into your web browser: (eg// link to http://www.yourwebsite.com/audio.m3u),

This should work, at least in winamp!

    Default streaming

    Hi Techno People

I hope someboody finds this useful!

Basically the very best method of streaming is to use the native windows media technologies..or for Mac Quicktime. The reason i say the best is because mp3 streaming does not have native error correction - so clients listening could & often do get breaks in the audio/video stream.

First get the free encoder here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ad/default.asp download windows media encoder 9
    or for Mac
www.quicktime.com incidently both work on each others system

Follow the pretty simple instructions or use the wizard to create an encoding session profile which stores bitrates, output location etc., & Mix Details. Eg Name of mix, copyright, website link etc.
You can modify the settings afterwards to suit your target audience! Once The wizard finishes you are ready to encode!

Here are guidelines for audio encoding that produce very fair results for the novice encoder.

Choose a bitrate that your target audience can listen to - so for a 56k dialup connection, a bitrate of 32k will allow a decent sounding constant feed for modem dialups & will allow for overheads, (network congestion, surfing, icq, yahoo, email) for a broadband connection, use a bitrate of 64 kb at 44khz - sounds great - close to cd quality!!!

All these settings can be tweaked to suit network conditions & targets

Then upload the encoded files to your webspace - if you are like me & host your own servers, use Windows 2000 server or 2003 & make publishing points .. & distribute. This will allow for fast forwarding & rewinding in almost realtime - depending on connection!!

Also then you could impliment LIVE shows (like I have been for over 4 years now)

To see the technologies in action visit www.calrek.com or www.oorpi.com

I'm a professional in the Streaming Multimedia industry - so if anybody need help - email me or private message me & i will endevour to help ;-)

I can make tutorials with images if required in a PDF format

If need be I can setup servers remotely if this is what you need!
Please remember - I'm here to help!! NOT preach!!

    Kind Regards

so you're saying basically you need the latest version of windows media player and save your files with what extention??? hmm... this isn't very clear actually. And the link you've given is to the player, not an encoder?

i think many of us save our wav file as an mp3 in soundforge.

Sorry Mark - I was trying to keep it simple ..

That link is for all windows technologies - The Link points to the Website called windows Download Center. All you have to do is choose encoder from the menu. If you click on mediaplayer it will open a dropdown menu.

Select media encoder from the list. Then select windows encoder 9 series

here is the Direct link to that page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx

Its for the win 2k /xp version for english edition.

You actually don't NEED the latest mediaplayer.
The codecs(CODER/DECODER) automatically get downloaded when yu visit a site that uses mp9 technologies. Personaly I think that its better if you do have the latest Mediaplayer. Here is the direct link that for mediaplayer 9 codecs http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...cdownload.aspx

With regard to sound forge - you can save as wma windows media 8 extension. That also rocks.. very good for streaming.
I use Soundforge everyday - It Rocks!

WMA extension - windows media audio
WMV extension - windows media video
ASX - xml based text file

This is a false link but this is how you point to the encoded file

    http://www.oorpi.com/your_folder/your_filename.wma

or you can use an asx file to point to the file. This has an advantage as you can add all sorts of funky things to the stream.

For E.G you can add a link rollover so if yur link fails in the first instance it will rollover to the next url in the list + many more benifits.
Maybe you want an advert? You can add that in so it plays b4 the stream!

The asx file contains details like below - you would type this in notepad & save as yourname.asx

This is a USABLE TEMPLATE - just change the path to your file!

    <ASX version = "3.0">
    <Entry>
    <Ref href = "http://www.oorpi.com/your_folder/your_filename.wma" />
    </Entry>
    </ASX>

You would upload the asx file to your webspace & call it as normal
    Like http://www.oorpi.com/your_folder/mymix.asx

I realise that this method may seem complicated & that this is not for the general artist - but if you are serious about Content Distribution & want the best streaming - THIS is the way ahead ;-)

Sure mp3 can be easier to create - but after using this technology I dont use mp3

Also - MP3 is on the way out! there are much much better compression algorithms coming out now that suppass the mp3 format which is over 10 years old!

Like all new things, this may seem complicated at first, but after 2 or 3 uses, It so EASY!

Like i said originally - I am here to help! ;-)

Can anyone please post some other websites I can upload my MP3's to?
The ones that are already posted are not exactly what I am looking for.
I normally would put my MP3's on my website, but I just got banned because I used up 10GIGS of bandwidth in 3 days

I think the max amount of space of all my sets is about 180 MB, so if anyone can please tell me some more websites, I would greatly appreciate it.

    http://s2.yousendit.com/

probably the best online tool for sharing around at the moment

allows you to share files of up to ONE GIG in size

basically, upload the file, and email the link to yourself, then post that link on the board

i think it lasts for 2 months or something (not 100% sure on that, have my own paid for webspace so dont use this too much) from the date of the last download

fantastic piece of kit for uploading anything from tunes to mixes for sharing

right now www.yousendit.com allows you to upload a file which can be downloaded like 25 times, after that u have to upload it again..

one more nice free service is www.ezshare.de

when u upload your file, u'll get .html address.. you post this address on board or in mail, then anyone interested in your file comes on it and waits for 30 seconds until link to mp3, zip or whatever format u uploaded, is revealed..

good thing is it doesnt seem to have download limits like yousendit

Ok I have uploaded a mix to the following link:

    http://www.fusioninc.net/drudles-electro-mix-mar-05.mp3

I have tried to download again to see if it will work, but I get this:

"Internet Explorer cannot download drudles-electro-mix-mar-05.mp3 from www.fusioninc.net

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Now there's webspace there (buckets of it), but there's no site up as such. It's just blank when you go to the homepage, but it's supposed to be that way (for the moment).

But when I log into the site the mix is there and when I download it when logged in (to the ftp site thingie) it works no problem.

Any ideas anyone? (I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this kind of stuff )

    Any help much appreciated. Thanks
